Courses - Cabinet Making, Furniture Restoration, Traditional Hand Finishing

John Lloyd offers the following range of short courses in furniture making, antique furniture restoration, polishing, veneering & laminating and machining.

John also offers longer furniture making courses in blocks of 12 weeks up to 36 weeks. A course syllabus is designed for each student taking into account their individual skills and needs. These courses are suitable to those wishing to retrain for a new career. Courses covering a range of traditional skills and techniques are run in our professional workshops in Sussex, groups are intentionally kept small so that students gain the maximum benefit from the large amount of personal attention that this allows.

All courses are designed to be intensive, whilst at the same time retaining a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere.

Teaching takes place between the hours of 09.00 and 17.00 but the workshops may also be available outside these times for unsupervised work.

The cost of each course includes the provision of basic materials, there will be a supplementary charge made for a polishing kit, materials for cabinet-making or a specific restoration project, if they required. Tools and various sharpening systems are available to try out, and advice can be given on the purchase of tools either before or during the course.

Bankside Farm workshops are situated just north of the historic village of Ditchling, and the South Downs. The nearby A23 / M23 gives easy access to Gatwick Airport, the M25 and London, which is approximately an hour away by car. If required, overnight accommodation is available close by, at either Ockenden Manor, in Cuckfield, or one of several other hotels, pubs and excellent B&B’s. Details available on request.
